Themes Secondhand Smoke - General, Cessation - Role Models for Children
Description A female babysitter explains that her years as a babysitter have taught her to notice certain things in a household, including family etiquette, figuring out where the snacks are hidden, and smelling when someone has been smoking in the house. She reminds parents to keep smoke away from their children, because even if the kids are in another room, they still must contend with secondhand smoke. She also reminds parents that the chemicals from smoke that end up in the furniture, rugs, and clothing, subsequently gets into the children’s lungs and skin. The babysitter urges parents to protect their children from secondhand smoke.

Description A little boy asks his parents to protect him and his dog Buster from secondhand smoke by not smoking in the house, in the yard and in the car. As he speaks, Buster whines in unison, especially when it comes to the parents smoking in the family car. The boy asks his parents to tell the grandparents to refrain from smoking around their dog, Princess, and to keep a safe and healthy “smoke-free zone.”
