Calculation Details
Numerator: Adults (40+) with a self-reported history of CVD who answered "yes" to the questions "Doctors and other health care providers sometimes recommend that you take a low-dose aspirin each day to prevent heart attacks, strokes, or cancer. Have you ever been told to do this?" AND "Are you now following this advice?" OR answered "yes" to the question "On your own, are you now taking a low-dose aspirin each day to prevent heart attacks, strokes, or cancer?" OR who were identified as taking aspirin or antiplatelets through the prescription medication data files.
Denominator: Adults (40+) with a self-reported history of CVD (Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), Angina pectoris, Heart attack (MI), or Stroke) who answered "yes" or "no" to the questions: "Doctors and other health care providers sometimes recommend that you take a low-dose aspirin each day to prevent heart attacks, strokes, or cancer. Have you ever been told to do this?"; "Are you now following this advice?"; "On your own, are you now taking a low-dose aspirin each day to prevent heart attacks, strokes, or cancer?" OR reported taking prescription medications. Participants who were identified as taking anticoagulants but not aspirin or antiplatelets in the prescription medication data files were excluded.
