Bill has diabetes and he used to smoke. In this radio ad from CDC's “Tips From Former Smokers” campaign, Bill tells viewers that smoking makes diabetes harder to control. In Bill’s case, he experienced kidney failure, blindness in one eye, and had one of his legs amputated due to poor circulation—among other health problems. His tip is to make a list and put the people you love at the top. Put down your eyes, your legs, your kidneys, and your heart and then cross off all the things that you’re okay with losing because you’d rather smoke. Bill died from his illness at 42. This is an audio lift from the :30 TV spot.
