Alcohol-Related Disease Impact (ARDI) Application

In April 2022, ARDI was updated with data from 2015–2019. To adjust for the underreporting of self-reported alcohol use, methodologic changes were made to conservatively account for a portion of per capita alcohol sales when calculating the prevalence of low, medium, and high average daily alcohol consumption. This affects some alcohol-attributable fractions and estimates of the number of alcohol-attributable deaths and years of potential life lost for most of the chronic conditions, as well as the totals. ARDI is an online application that provides national and state estimates of alcohol-related health impacts, including deaths and years of potential life lost (YPLL). These estimates are calculated for 58 acute and chronic causes using alcohol-attributable fractions, and are reported by age and sex for 2015–2019.

Open Data Portal

ARDI open data are included in the CDC Chronic Disease and Health Promotion Open Data Site, which allows you to create filtered datasets and customize visualizations, as well as quickly access a wide range of chronic disease data, risk factor indicators, and policy measures.
