Diseases and conditions that cause CKD include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cardiovascular disease, family history, and age. In the past decade there has been an increase in the prevalence of self-reported diabetes from 6.5% in 1999-2000 to 10.1% in 2009-2010, while the percentage of adults with a diagnostic code for hypertension has increased with age.
