Burden of Risk Factors

Diseases and conditions that cause CKD include diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, family history, and older age. The prevalence of self-reported diabetes in the past decade increased from 6.5% in 1999–2000 to 10.1% in 2009–2010. Although the prevalence of hypertension has changed little over the years, the percentage of adults with a diagnostic code for hypertension is shown to increase with age.
