Health Consequences

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with premature morbidity and mortality and the risk of progressing to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Mortality rates rise with the advancing severity of CKD. The prevalence of sleep disorders and nocturia, which is two or more episodes of urination that disrupts sleep per night on average, are high among people with CKD.
