The population aged 20 to 64 years is primarily white for the years analyzed. About a third of Clinformatics Commercial™ insurance patients are of any other race/ethnicity.

Chart Explanation: The chart shows the distribution of race/ethnicity, by year, by age, and by year and gender. The y-axis (vertical line) shows the percentage of patients. The x-axis (horizontal line) shows the race/ethnicity groups by either year, age groups, or year and gender.
The Clinformatics Commercial™ provides paid medical and prescription claims and enrollment information for participants in commercial insurance plans.

CKD is defined using ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, and ESRD is based on ICD diagnosis, CPT procedure, and DRG codes in Clinformatics Commercial.

Limitations of IndicatorThe use of an ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM diagnosis code as a measure of prevalence will underestimate chronic kidney disease in the general population.
Analytical ConsiderationsIn published literature, ckd is diagnosed by ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM codes in alternate ways (one outpatient, two or more outpatient or one inpatient). Care must be taken in comparisons.
